Possible causes seem almost like a ca. They are indeed why the trend became popular even if you do not agree. Seeing the example monopoly may help me choose a better topic.

It is easy to get off course and continue at length about your personal experiences in an essay. It's much easier to write in a journal or a letter to a close friend detailing life events than it is to stay on track with the message you are trying to get across to your local congressman!

Hi! I sometimes struggle as well with transitions from one idea to the next, but this depends on the subject I am writing about. If it is something that I am very knowledgeable in, and/or have very strong feelings about, I feel I am able to project from one thought to the next with ease. However, if the subject is something I am struggling with grasping all of the facts about, or do not have a personal interest in, I feel then that I truly do struggle from point to point, and do not perform as well.

Using CAs truly help a writer focus on the points they want to make in dispelling these arguments. I agree with Chelsea in the fact that it does imediately peak the readers attention because you are listing their opposing points of view first.

This is always great advice to remember when writing a paper, but sometimes it is the first thing forgotten! Sometimes a writer may find themselves overwhelmed with the volume of material they are using, or even the amount of information that they would like to put forth in their article, at least I know at times I do. It will be very helpful for me to focus on who the audience is so that I am able to stay on track and keep my goals in focus.

This makes a lot of sense to me. I know when arguing a position, you must have a vocabulary that doesn't intimidate the audience but shows versatility as a arguer. When I'm writing, I love to show my audience things they would have never thought of. I like bringing up points that were never considered.

I agree with both Ashley and Chelsea. I do prefer the forecasting thesis because it gives the general reasons for the position that is taken and prepares the audience for what will be in the paper.

Ashley,

Thanks for all your insightful comments!

I suggest limiting personal experience so that the personal experience doesn't become the focus of your essay. Sometimes when a writer brings in a personal experience to use as an example, he or she will switch the focus from the argument to the personal experience. I just want all of you to be aware that I'm interested in an argumentative essay, not a personal narrative.

Does that make more sense?

The CA is my favorite part of the essay. I think it helps target the opposing side. It helps them get into your argument too.

Why do you have to imit personal experence in a paper? I though that would give a person more credability if they have "walked in those shoes"?
